BIOGRAPHY
Pioneering Montreal’s electropunk scene, FRIGID officially launches his DJ career in 2001 with his mind-bending blend of electroclash, indie rock, ’80s new wave, and grunge. His unique signature sound quickly catches fire—earning him widespread media coverage, packed dancefloors, and a defining role in shaping the city’s alternative nightlife.
Between 2001 and 2003, his infamous Thursday night residency, Overdose at Parking Nightclub, draws over 800 revelers weekly, becoming one of the most talked-about club nights in the city. The crazy wild parties attract a very diverse crowd of open-minded people from all walks of life; a dream come true for the visionary DJ and promoter. When management begins sidelining him and taking creative control of his successful night, FRIGID makes a bold move—he jumps ship, launching “KINK!” at rival venue Unity II and kicking things off with an explosive set by Ladytron’s Mira Aroyo in October 2003.
A new weekly Thursday night era is born.
In early 2004, Quebec’s leading electronic distributor, Fusion III, approaches FRIGID to curate a compilation—recognizing his exquisite taste in underground music. He seizes the moment to spotlight Montreal’s electrified new wave of talent, debuting his first two original singles: “Machine !” (a fierce collaboration with Belgian new-wave icon Plastic Bertrand) and “Bedroom Session,” which later becomes the title track of his debut album. KINK!, the compilation, drops in June 2004 to glowing reviews from top local critics. That same summer, FRIGID takes his sound global—touring Paris, Barcelona, and Lisbon as part of the Montreal Electronic Groove (MEG) festival circuit.
